EPIDEMIOLOGIC STUDY USING RIBOTYPING FOR METHICILLIN-RESISTANAT STAPHYLOCOCCAL AUREUS(MRSA) INFECTION FROM PATIENTS PERFORMING MIDDLE EAR SURGERY AND STUDY FOR PREVENTION

Abstract
The cases of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) infection after middle ear surgery most of which are thought to be hospital acquired infection are increasing recently. MRSA infection is apt to be long lasting and to bring many complications because MRSA is resistant to aminoglycosides and cephalosporin as well as methicillin. To find and eradicate MRSA infection source and transmission route are both essential because medical staff who manages MRSA infected patient can be a continuing transmission route. Bacterial cultures from the noses and hands of ENT medical staff in Korea University Hospital were done and ribotyping through Southern blot technique was used to compare MRSA strains from medical staff with those from otorrhea of MRSA infected patients. The first type- was identical, which reveals the MRSA transmission among patients. The transmission through medical personal was successfully prevented by thorough sterilization of medical tools after a use, rifampin administration and use of topical mupirocin to MRSA carrier state medical personal, wearing mask in¢¥ examining patients, and hand washing with 0.05% chlorhexidine solution after examine patients
